Hot Dog Giveaway Club Fair
By 11am clubs had already started filling up the tables waiting for things to get rolling. When things actually started up by 11:30 the hot dog line was filled with hungry students and Lobo even tried to sneak his way into the mix. With such a large turn out we ended having more clubs than we had on the list and definitely more than we had tables for! But that's the kind of student involvement we like to see--students eager to get more involved.
Due to budget cuts we cannot host as many club fairs as we have in the past and so we are strongly encouraging students to get out with their clubs to really promote themselves! There will be a PAWS workshop on Marketing Your Organization on Sep 29th at 12pm in the MPR--if you are interested in getting more members, please come!
Thanks for a great turnout at the club fair and we look forward to seeing you around!

Your Campus. Your Newspaper.
The first issue of the Sonoma State STAR was distributed today and students are reading anything but positive articles these days. The attitude of the newspaper was depressing, saddening and it gave everyone an overall sense that our university is struggling in every aspect.
Yet, the words of The STAR were not falsities. They were true words and emphasized that students have a say in what our campus is going through. We are all students, struggling to survive a budgetary crisis. We can speak up and we can make a difference on our campus.
Get involved. Do Good. Make a difference. If you are wanting to get involved on campus and have your voice heard, visit the CSLIS Office TODAY!

Classes are now upon us...
Welcome to the first official day of classes! You are now diving into a crazy, history-making adventure at Sonoma State University. In the words of Helen Keller, "When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened up for us”. Take advantage of all that SSU has to offer and continue to walk through the open doors...
The First Day
First Day is the beginning of class for new students on campus. They are split up into groups, play icebreakers, talk about how to get involved on campus and they have the opportunity to meet staff and student leaders.
After this event, they head to the Main Gym for Student Convocation. Not only was the Gym filled with student from wall to wall, but everyone seemed to be intently listening as professors and students spoke about the current state of our university with all the budget issues going on around us.
As the 2009-2010 year continues, students will not only be concerned with the state of our University, but we will all be working together to make our campus better than it has ever been before, despite the struggles we will all be facing together.
SON FEST 2009
As the welcome events continue on campus, new students are filing in and out, while they are mingling, laughing, enjoying their time before classes begin and simply getting used to a new campus. The 2nd Annual Son Fest kicked off with vendors located outside the doors of the Recreation Center, clubs tabling inside the gym and the rock climbing wall was full of interested participants. As an 'open house' event for the Recreation Center, students got the chance to experience all the activites that the Rec. Center offers.
As the years continue to pass, Son Fest will continue to blossom. Lobo even showed up for the host of events and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon dunked over his head.
As the end of Son Fest approached, The Dirty Heads took the stage and rocked out 'reggae style' for those students who stuck around.
All in all, Son Fest was a great success. Thank you to those of you who put your time and effort into making sure we all experienced the Recreation Center activities to the fullest. See you next year!

Big Nite 2009

The hustle and bustle of freshmen students, returning students, and new transfers was eminent as thousands of Seawolves joined in the festivities of BIG NITE! As we stood at the first table that students would see as they entered BIG NITE, we were all overcome with an excited attitude because not only was fall in the air, but the campus was, once again, alive and awake for the coming of the 2009-2010 school year.
We could spot those new students from far, far away as they nervously walked toward crowds of returning students who seemed so at home on campus. There were smiles from ear to ear and faces lit up by glow sticks around their necks and flood lights shining bright. Lobo made an appearance, which brings about the campus spirit that we have all been longing for as a student body at Sonoma State.
The atmosphere of BIG NITE is not only one of club tabling, rock band on a gigantic screen and a holographic fun house, but BIG NITE is the start to every great year at Sonoma State.
We are, again, entering into a school year that not only brings about a lot of changes with the state of California and the worries of the California State University system, but we are entering a time of student involvement, leadership and change that will impact every student that enters into our campus from here on out.
See you at SON FEST!
